Important evolution for EDAS Services

The European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), as the EDAS service provider, would like to inform users about an important evolution planned for the EDAS services currently offered.

Based on the outcomes of the consultation made to all EDAS registered users in October 2024, where EUSPA already anticipated this and as part of our commitment to improve and enhance the security of the EGNOS services, some of the existing EDAS service levels will be decommissioned, and others will be upgraded in favour of more robust and secure protocols to protect the interface with users and an updated data policy will be put in place.

The implementation of these service improvements is planned in the course of 2027. All EDAS registered users will be timely informed with the precise dates once these are confirmed to ensure a smooth transition.

The specific service levels impacted by these evolutions are as follows:

  • Service Level 0 and Service Level 2: To be decommissioned. Alternative service level to disseminate SL2 data will be based on NTRIP v2.
  • Data Filtering: To be decommissioned. Alternative service level to disseminate SL2 data will be based on NTRIP v2 which allows filtering capability at user level.
  • SISNeT: will be decommissioned in favour of NTRIP v2. Alternative service to disseminate EGNOS messages will be provided.
  • Ntrip: Protocol version 1 will be decommissioned in favour of Version 2 (supporting higher security robustness). RTCM formats for DGNSS and RTK corrections will be upgraded.
  • FTP: will be upgraded to Sftp (secure protocol). Files format versioning to be upgraded.

What does this mean for you?

  • Decommissioning of service levels: For the service levels listed above to be decommissioned, we recommend you to plan any necessary transition to the new secure protocols.
  • Evolution of service levels: For the service levels which protocols will be upgraded to more secure options, we recommend you to adapt the clients and protocols connecting to these services.

We will provide you with the instructions and documentation to access the new services, in forthcoming communications.

The EDAS and Maritime Helpdesk is available to assist with any questions you may have regarding these changes and to support you to plan the relevant transition. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to work towards offering you more secure and efficient solutions to access the EDAS service.
